The Rally of Max Pep!!

As I entered the packed gymnasium, filled with M.A.Firebaugh High School alumni, the atmosphere is electric. The pure energy felt throughout the relatively small enclosure was undeniable. An unaltered spirit of what it meant to be a Firebaugh High School student hit me as I entered the "area of max peppiness". The layout was practical and very well organized: freshman in the middle sitting in chairs, on the left bleachers a mixture of sophomores and juniors, and in the right bleacher the rest of the juniors with the undeniable head of the pack seniors. More after the jump.

The sound level in the room was overwhelming; everyone was yelling and being overly boisterous, a maelstrom of alumni spirit. The ubiquitous sounds and voices were deafening, I literally could not hear anything clearly throughout the whole ordeal. As the event kicked off one of the first things that was done, a sort of tradition, was the almost trite competition of screaming. The MC of the rally went class by class and asked them to show their spirit through yelling as loud as they could. When it was the turn of the seniors, we were without a doubt the loudest class as expected. However one noteworthy thing that happened, other than the pure hegemony of the senior class, was the hatred the sophomores, juniors, and seniors had towards the freshman class. See when it was the freshman's turn to yell, instead of hearing the symphony of fourteen and fifteen year old kids screaming I heard the booing of every other class; hysterical.

Next came the fabulous and exceptional cheerleaders, that were only outdone by the drill team that preceded them. The cheerleaders were a delightful mix of charm and killer rhythm; the team was mostly composed of females, but there was one gentleman with copious amounts of spirit that was also there. The cheerleaders truly gave us a show to enjoy and made us eager to see them again for the upcoming homecoming game. What came next can only be summed up with one word; sparkly. The dresses worn by our drill team were utterly captivating. I don't know if I paid more attention to their garments or fantastic dance skills they treated the student body to. The drill team showcased a dancing ability that I would dare say is good enough to gather great crowds and make firebaugh as whole very proud.

The presentation of 2012-2013 football was made afterwards. This presentation began with a rather comical "smash through a banner" stunt that saw one boy stray ahead and solely go through the paper leaving the rest of the team to smash through nothing. Then the whole football team oddly gathered into a tight circle, almost seeming like they were hiding something from the audience, I was later told they were not hiding anything. After this was done the coach introduced the team class by class and starting with who were the starters. The football isn't of the highest caliber and their recent results are a testimony of this, but as the coach put it they have a lot of drive. I personally do not care for the results, what really matter is that the team goes out there and plays with full intensity and make the colors of our school known throughout the land.

To finish off a rather impressive pep rally, we had a jubilant performance by the school's drum-line that beautifully capped off the celebrations. The whole team was in rhythm and spilled out some killer beats. They also demonstrated a level of enjoyment that I as a spectator could not help but join in with the mutual hedonism.

Overall I have to give full credit to both the students and teachers that made the whole thing possible. This was the ideal way to start our school year. I was entertained and enjoyed making a mockery of the other classes. Seniors Rule every other class drools.
